Google yourself to unprotected webcams

Say, you are working and falling asleep at your desk. And everybody can be a witness of that. It is possible when your boss has installed a control-, security-, safety- or other kind of webcam. Visit the site of Opentopia for hundreds of streaming webcams all over the world.

And Google finds nearly everything, you know. In a special chapter (scroll down) you find dozens of search commands to use with Google, and you find thousands of sometimes very surprising webcams, anywhere. Often the owner wants you to see the view, in case of beautiful nature or a world famous touristic attraction, but sometimes the people you see are not aware at all that they can be viewed by anyone in the world!

This website made a first start January 10, 2007, at another URL. I had to change my provider and the old one will stop that site. Now I moved the page to a new website, World Webcam Monitor (Yola.com). The URL of this page is http://unprotectedwebcams.yolasite..com/Unprotected.php

Unprotected webcams

The Dutch Search Weblog Voelspriet issued (December 6, 2007) an item, 'Gluren met Google' (Google translate), about the numerous number of webcams you can find using Google. You can find many online surveillance cameras around the world that can be viewed without access restrictions, only using your web browser. The website gave some tools to find that kind of cams yourself.

It is easy, however, to protect your webcam. But if you dont, the world could see what you wanted to view only yourself. Like:

Insecam.org introduces itself like ‘the world biggest directory of online surveillance security cameras’. At the website you can select thousands of webcams in countries (USA over 5000, Latvia 6), places (like bars, bridges, malls and religion), cities and timezones (many of them show nothing at night, or you have to wait for burglars). The government of the United Kingdom, however, warned (November 20, 2014, Business Insider) that Insecam is a Russian website, ‘allowing to see into private houses’.

More than 500 webcams in the UK alone are listed on Insecam. They include baby monitors showing sleeping children, security cameras showing pensioners eating their lunch, as well as offices, empty living rooms, and a view of some pavement in Alcester.

Opentopia

It is not the only one. The website Opentopia shows Free Live webcams they found automatically on the net. ‘For one reason or another these streams are publicly accessible, even when that seems surprising’, they state. Opentopia does not hack people's passwords. ‘We simply locate cams hiding away in search engines, grab a snapshot, and present them to you here’. The snapshots update every few hours. If you click on a webcam, you can see a live video feed, plus comments and ratings and other information.

Joseph Ayer, a.k.a. ‘Professor Emeritus’, placed a video at YouTube (9.48) with instructions how to find unsecurd or unprotected CCTV (surveillance) webcams all over the world, and watch them live.
